all about porter
I don't believe that psychotherapy is simply a profession—it's a calling. I bring all of myself to our work because I've learned that real healing happens in an authentic relationship between two whole people. I fundamentally believe that, given the right supports, every person has an innate capacity for healing and wholeness, even when life circumstances or past challenges make that hard to see.
I've been facilitating growth, learning, healing, and transformation in a wide range of capacities for over fifteen years - from teaching in K-12 classrooms to running wilderness rites of passage programs, facilitating men’s groups, designing social-emotional learning trainings for educators, and leading immersive retreats. What deeply inspires me is witnessing someone reclaim their wholeness through therapy—engaging thoughtfully and courageously with life as a journey of self-discovery and growth.
My own therapeutic journey spans over a decade with therapists, coaches, mentors, and healers who form a critical support system for my growth and understanding. This extensive personal experience, combined with years of professional training and practice, shapes everything I bring to our work together. When I'm not practicing therapy or teaching, I make music, spend time in nature, travel, and nurture the community connections that keep me grounded and inspired.
how I work
Therapy with me is a true collaboration. I adapt my approach based on your goals, personality, preferences, and past experiences. I combine psychodynamic work (understanding how your past affects your present) with somatic and mindfulness-based approaches that help us get beneath overthinking to access the deeper wisdom of your body and emotions. While traditional talk therapy and analyzing your past can yield important insights, it has limitations when used in isolation. I use a relational approach because I don't believe that rigid "expert-client" dynamics—where I'm the wise therapist dispensing insights—yield lasting change. Instead, we will build a real, honest, two-way, trusting relationship in service of your goals and healing.
I also believe that the places where you struggle and suffer are not simply "problems" to solve or "diagnoses" to cure - with effective therapy, these become powerful opportunities to become more whole. Your most significant challenges point us toward the parts of your psyche that require attention, understanding, love, and integration. Therapy with me isn't just about managing symptoms or feeling less bad—it's about actively growing into more of who you truly are.
In addition to psychodynamic, somatic, mindfulness, and existential approaches, I am particularly passionate about Internal Family Systems. IFS helps you develop a compassionate relationship with the different parts of yourself—the critic, the people-pleaser, the wounded child and find more self-acceptance and leadership. I also have specialized experience supporting people who've had significant altered-state experiences through meditation, breathwork, psychedelics, or spontaneous spiritual openings. In weaving together all of these approaches, our work becomes a journey toward reclaiming more of your wholeness, your power, your confidence, and your capacity to confidently love - not just yourself, but the world around you.

Good therapy transformed how I relate to myself, others, and the world. I believe there’s nothing more meaningful than living an examined life with strong, loving relationships, and I’m passionate about helping people transform their relationship to suffering, to each other, to open to love, and continue evolving throughout their lives.
What inspired me to become a therapist
Escaping the city to find nature, making music, or spending time in community
When I’m not in the therapist chair, you can probably find me:
Time in nature, music and dance, and the friendships that keep me rooted.
Three things that keep me grounded:
